Wastewater collection and treatment Operator

The Greater Shediac Sewerage Commission (GSSC) maintains and operates two wastewater treatment facilities (aerated lagoons) and 24 sewage lift stations. 

The GSSC is seeking applicants for a permanent full-time position for a wastewater collection and treatment operator.  This position requires the performance of scheduled and emergency cleaning, repair and maintenance of sanitary related infrastructure, operating vehicles, equipment, and tools in a safe manner to perform such functions in all weather conditions and in confined spaces.  Operators are required to share on-call duties, and therefore must be able to work independently to troubleshoot and resolve problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operate a variety of cleaning, maintenance and repair equipment, tools and vehicles;
  2. Clean, repair, and maintain sewers, underground access chambers, wet wells, laterals, and force mains.
  3. Replace, repair, and adjust manhole covers;
  4. Respond to floods, sewer odours, sewer backups and customer complaints.  Investigate and resolve such complaints;
  5. Inspect wastewater related infrastructure;
  6. Load and unload equipment and materials as required;
  7. General care, maintenance and safe operation of assigned equipment and tools;
  8. Provide written and verbal reports concerning daily work activities;
  9. Shall be willing to work overtime for emergency call-outs and share on-call duties 24/7 (shall be able to be on-site during a call-out within a maximum of 60 minutes);
  10. Operate equipment such as: sewer flusher, landscaping and grass cutting equipment, snow removal equipment, and other equipment as necessary;
  11. Collect wastewater samples and deliver to the laboratory;
  12. Maintain cleanliness of lift stations & operations buildings;
  13. Perform inspections of contractors work and provide written inspection reports;
  14. Perform duties in a safe manner;
  15. Monitor the SCADA system regularly to ensure proper functioning of systems;
  16. Perform other related duties as required.
